there are banks such as alliance and leister that have special accounts for people like us. they give you a PIN card to withdraw cash and you may also be able to pay for goods with it, but you wont get any overdraft switch card or anything like that.

If you make friends with a bank manager (where a nice shirt, comb your hair) they can open any account that you want. Most managers I have worked with have been very accommodating.

Get an account with no frills (no checks, no fees). If you got to 3 different banks, One will definitely help you out.

You will be able to get a bank account.. Try natwest, they will provide u with what they call a Step Account...

the post office and I think HSBC have basics, no frills accounts, no cheque books, no credit cards and I think with the post office no direct debits but they will allow you to have wages paid in to them

you can have it paid into a building society account and withdraw the cash on it
