4 months is minimum to start a baby on food and that should only be cereal type foods. If you introduce foods too early (and most pediatricians suggest waiting until 6 months), you increase the risk of food allergies. If you want to still add foods, you can add rice cereal or the like.

Breastmilk or formula only.
If your baby under 6 months of age, then his immune and digestive systems are immature. Experts think that this makes him more likely to suffer from baby food allergies, or digestive problems
Try to delay giving solids until your baby is 6 months old. His digestive and immune systems will be stronger. This is particularly important if your baby is already at a higher risk of developing baby food allergies
Studies show that babies that are at high risk for allergies will sometimes refuse solids. If a baby is genetically high risk for allergies docs will often advice parents to avoid introducing solids until the 1st birthday.
experts agree that it's best to wait until your baby is at least six months old before offering solid foods (Solid food is ANYTHING other than breast milk or formula--this includes rice cereal, juice and stage 1 baby food). There has been a quite a bit of research on this recently, and most health organizations have updated their recommendations to agree with current research. Unfortunately, many health care providers and most books are not up to date.
If your baby is not full after a feeding, offer more milk,
Solids before the 1st year are for exploring new tastes, experimenting with new textures and for having fun seeing if carrots bounce as good as peas. Don't rush your baby, wait until he is ready.

I think it's too much. I also started feeding my son at exactly 4 months & I've been feeding him for about a week & half now & he usually only eats like 1-2 tbsp a day! I think 5 jars of baby food a day is way too much for a baby that is not even 5 months old!! I would start giving him half a jar with his cereal in the morning. for lunch give him half a jar of veggies & half fruit & then dinner the same. I definitely wouldn't give more than 3 jars a day!!! oh & no matter what his stomach won't "blow up" but I do think your over-feeding.

I loved Gerber we got Organic and Regular--if Organic was on sale I stocked up. I would definitley suggest beginning with a vegetable so that your daughter doesn't grow fond of the sweetness of fruits and then doesn't want to eat veggies! For a first time solid I would go with peas or carrots, neither of them are very strong or bitter. After trying veggies for about a month (assorted ones, we waited about 3-4 days between trying something new) then we started fruits. Our daughters loved the veggies and it actually took some time getting them to like the fruits. Now they love everything and are such great eaters!
We introduced in this order:
-peas
-carrots
-green beans
-sweet potatoes
-squash
-applesauce
-banannas
-pears
-peaches
after that we just went through the different stages and mixed different fruits, veggies and cereals.
good luck, have fun! :)

A 4 month old should not be eating solid foods yet. Her system is not ready to properly digest it. Starting solids prior to approximately 6 mos of age leads to an increased risk fo allergies, diabetes and obesity. Earlier is NOT better. Breastmilk or formula only at this age.
Around 6 months of age you can start with mashed bananas, avocados and sweet potatoes. Introduce one at a time with at least 5 days between new foods.

bananas and avacados are suppose to be the best food to start a baby on initially and usually the baby likes those foods the best. It is easier to start a baby on fruits that are sweet then vegetables which can be bitter because the baby may reject the yucky food and it may put him off solids all together for a bit.

Start her off with a cereal. Make sure that she adjusts to that for 2-4 weeks before starting her on anything else. You can ask her doctor for a list of good first foods. Just make sure that you only introduce her to one new food every 7-10 days, so if she develops an allergy or reaction to the food you will quickly be able to pinpoint which food is causing the issue.

Cerial is the best thing. do that for a few weeks.
As far a a veggie, We chose sweet potatoes. It was sweet enough to please here tastebuds but not TOO sweet.
Make sure you stay on the same veggie for at least one week to see if it causes an allergic reaction.

try a ceral, and different kinds like oatmael, rice, and barley. Mix them with your bay food for flavor. My daughter is almost six months old and i still mix her fruit in the mornings with ceral. ceral will thicken up the baby food and get her/him ready for soild foods. any kind of ceral is really good. i like beachnut or gerber.
