For me: TEXAS! People are much friendlier, there's great diversity in the geography and landscape, the live music scene in Austin is incredible, the climate is warmer, colleges are better, the food, multiculturalism, beautiful women, etc. It is the only state that can even fly its state flag the same height as the American flag! It's a great state (I mean, country)!

(I must say, I like the towns of Harrodsburg, Danville, and Stanford in central KY. Friendly, charming places. The rest of the state I can do without--literally.)

Sounds like you answered your own question.... We ARE arrogant about our "country" of Texas.....we should be!

I have to disagree with you on this. First of all, flying the state flag at the same height as the American flag is a matter of an overinflated ego. That's not supposed to happen - even in Texas. I've driven through texas - and I can't say I saw a lot of diversity in the geography. In fact, the whole state pretty much looked the same. Kentucky has gorgeous mountains on one end and horses on the other end. The people, for the most part, are VERY friendly, although I don't know many people in Texas so I can't compare the two. And yes, maybe it gets colder in Kentucky. But that just means they actually have seasons instead of just having hot weather all year. The mountains are beautiful when covered in snow.

It is impossible to compare TX to KY and determine which state is "Best". Texas is bigger than most countries and also more diverse than most. Kentucky is about the size of a small country and less diverse. Both ooze with culture and both have wonderful inhabitants, and arrogant dim-wits. If you fit five Kentucky's inside Texas would it be better than Texas. No one will ever be able to make such a judgment, certainly not a inhabitant of either state who is predisposed. No two people ever experience the same things or have identical opinions that develop over a period of time. But, assuming you could judge one over the other, who cares. Your opinion is as worthless and as irrelevant as the Best Lists that flood the news every day. My opinion, and I have traveled back and metro country in most states, the state I would go to if I was young again is Idaho. And I would never relocate from there. Why? Because it fits my persnickety tea cup better than any other state I have experienced. But there are a dozen really close seconds, and Texas and Kentucky are still far down the list. But who cares? It's like arguring which religion is best, or movie, or football fans - you can't win.

As a Hoosier by birth, and a Texan by choice, I've worked all over the country and find Texans to be among the warmest in the country. (They are the primary reason I decided to settle here.)

Austin is an amazing city, better than any I know of it's size. Personally, I live right outside Houston...which admittedly isn't for everyone. But, Houston has a lower cost of living and is more accessible than any of the three larger cities.

Coincidentally, my step-sister lives in Kentucky and swears by it. She thinks that Texas is full of pompous, self-important, rednecks. While we do have some of that, I think that Texas is more diverse, and Kentucky is no hotbed of progressive thinking. (If you do end up in Louisville, let me know, I'll hook you up with someone who knows the area better.)

Texas no doubt. Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Ft Worth........everything you could imagine within hours of each other. Find the city that fits your personality. Each city in very unique and has lots of attractions. I don't think there is much that KY has to offer that you can't get in Texas, except a state income tax!

I'm with you on that one ! Let's hear it for the Lone Star State!

And don't forget we still have the death penalty. You forgot to mention that in the whole history of Texas, only ONE governor attended every single execution during his time in office . What one? .. why, George W Bush of course!!

PS you forgot to mention San Antonio, the historic scene of the Alamo ( America's most impressive historic building, after Alcatraz)

God Bless America!!
