Your girlfriend is right this method can be used up to nine weeks. It is known as a medical abortion.
People using this method need to be under medical supervision from taking the pill until the procedure is complete.

-Medical abortion (abortion pill) can be used up to 9 weeks of pregnancy. This procedure induces miscarriage.. It is very painful and lasts several hours, you also bleed for up to 8 weeks after. 4 weeks after the medical abortion you need to take a pregnancy test, if it comes back positive you will be referred for an ultrasound, if there is anything remaining.. You then need to have a D&C, unless you want to risk getting an infection. -Surgical abortion, well there are several methods I don't know much about them.. Normally you will be given anaesthetic or put under.. It's less painful than the medical abortion and the bleeding afterwards would be less than that of a medical abortion. I'm not against abortion it's up to the individual but having an abortion is not nice either way. I also think women should get more information about contraception from their Drs and in the cases of rape women should seek or should be suggested to get the morning after pill effective up to 72 hours (3 days) after sex.

There is a pill that you can take called the morning after pill but that is exactly what it is and that is the morning after you think you might have gotten pregnant. Once your 7 weeks your too far along for anything else but an abortion.

At this point, it is too late to take a pill for an abortion. The Abortion Pill only works within 48 hours of conception and is basically a concentrated birth control pill.

Yes, you can, but it is very dangerous. At least 11 women have died so far from taking the abortion pill:
http://www.lifeissues.org/ru486/deaths.htm
Two chemicals are involved. The first chemical affects a hormone needed to maintain the lining of the womb. As the lining breaks down, the baby's nourishment is cut off and he or she starves to death inside the womb. A second chemical is given to cause contractions which push the dead baby out of the womb. This whole process takes an average of 9 days. Bleeding is heavy and the pain is severe. Sometimes, parts of the baby are left inside the body, where they can rot and cause infection. This is what killed 18-year-old Holly Patterson in California.

Not sure how many weeks you can be. But yes there is an actual pill that can be used for abortion. I have no clue what the name is.
This is NOT the plan B pill.
Plan B is the pill you take if you have had unprotected sex and prevents conception so there is nothing to abort.

There is a pill that you can take after you have gotten pregnant. They give to you at the doctor to abort the baby. I know someone that has done this and she said she felt like she was dying because of all the bleeding. She said she would never do it again!

yes, there is a pill, I believe it's called RU486. You take it within the first 9 weeks, but it has to be monitored by a doctor, because it can result in infections. You take 1 pill orally, then another one after 12 or 24 hours, either taken orally or inserted vaginally. The hormones in the pill make the womb expel the fetus.
It is NOT the same as plan B, which merely prevents conception.

Mifeprex), also known as RU-486 is approved for medical abortion through the first 49 days of pregnancy. Rather than a single pill, it's a two-step process. Mifeprex is taken to block progesterone, a hormone required to sustain pregnancy. Two days later, the drug misoprostol (Cytotec) is taken to induce uterine contractions and end the pregnancy.
