I am a Filipino and I am following the different questions and answers about U.S. politics. I encountered the word "dubya" or "dubyah" when referring to Pres. G W Bush. I am curious and I want to know what this word means. Is it a nickname, or an offensive word?. I've looked in the Dictionary and didn't find this word. Can someone explain it to me?.

To distinguish between George Herbert Walker Bush (41st President of US) and George Walker Bush (current president), he'd acquired the nickname "W". But in Texas, where they have a regional accent - a drawl - "Double U" (name of the letter W) sounds like "Dubya".

It's a play on his middle initial of W in President Bush's name.

When used, it is usually done so in a derogatory fashion.

It means "W" for George W Bush. To be able to distinguish between him and his father.

It's how some people like to pronounce his middle initial.
