i just boought a new camera and a new 4gb compact flash card. every now and then some of the images turn out faulty. i can't determine whether this is due to the camera or the card.
is there software that can run a diagnostic and determine whether there is anything wrong with my compact flash card?

If you have a card reader that plugs into your computer, you can format the card with the computer and do a full surface scan. Although this was designed for hard drives, it will also test the memory of a solid-state memory card.

If you don't have a card reader, consider getting one. They make loading pictures into the computer much easier and cost as little as $10. You might also think about getting a 1 GB CompactFlash card for a backup. Use it for a while to see if you still get an occasionally scrambled image file. If you do, then there is a problem with your camera. If you don't, then your 4 GB card is flaky.

Good luck!

I own 3 compact digital cameras and they are all from different manufacturers, Canon, Kodak and Panasonic. i ought to say i do not see wide differences between them yet my ideal %. is Panasonic Lumix TZ15. that's little more desirable severe priced than others yet i love it because that's were given a glittery 3.0 diagonal liquid crystal demonstrate demonstrate, that's totally sparkling to work out and would take action pictures with sensational 1280 x 720 HD determination at 30 frames in protecting with 2d (fps). you should use the zoom, too, and some really dramatic images.
