I am 33 yrs old and on my third marriage. My husband is African American and i am Irish/ half costirican.Though his ex. wife throws racial slurs at me and his family is not thrilled about me he seems to see me as a status symbol?I over heard a conversation between him and someone at work where he called me his trophy wife? And i quote that he had got a white woman!

I wouldn't be too offended that he thinks you are a trophy wife, unless, of course, you feel that is the only reason he married you. Trophy wives are usually considered very good looking to other people, hence the "trophy". I'd say talk to him about it if it really bothers you that much.

I'm and A/A man as well. So, don't take this the wrong way. But, it is very possible that you husband married you because of your non-blackness. It may be a reality that you might have to come to terms with. I'm not saying he does not love you. He probably does love you. But your color has a lot to do with it.
I just realized you said you were on your third marriage. I tend to think your color is the only reason why you married you. Do you think he would have married a black woman that was married 2x previously? I don't think so.

No you are NOT over reacting, this is the mind-set of African American men. They think it elevates them to some high degree when they have a white woman, costirican, latina woman as a wife.
I'd give him a good talking too, for talking like this to others.
If he get's mad, i'd kick his butt to the curb and get me a real man that doesn't act this way about his woman.

What's costirican? I'm not sure I understand the question at the moment.
Oh right. Sorry.
Well it seems a little strange a man talking about his wife like that, but keep your cool for the time being.

I would be terribly offended. Your husband should have more respect for you than to refer to you like that to a coworker. Black men do see white women as some sort of accomplishment - and black women usually take offense. I suggest you deflate his ego, rather than boost it by giving him a dose of reality - let him know what you overheard and set him straight. This lack of respect will surely snowball over time.

i cant tell if your over reacting or not because i dont know your husband and i dont know how he otherwise treats you.i do know however that men are generally pigs and that often times we may say things to our friends that if taken out of context sound pretty bad, also im sure if we followed you around for awhile we may hear some interesting things come out of your mouth that you wouldnt want your husband to hear-so to sum this all up unless you are severely hurt by this id say let it go, and chalk it up to one of those things that could of been left unsaid.
