These people that say no are just kidding themselves, to say the internet in general is not one big monitoring tool is just being blinkered, I mean jeez, store loyalty cards are another way to amass huge amounts of information about the general public and it's weekly habits. Come on, wake up.

If they have reason to check you out they can look up anything you wrote online, especially if you post under your own name, but if whatever it is is more serious, they may look for IP's too. So if someone asks 'what's the worst crime you commited' and for you it's murder, it may not be a good idea to answer truthfully ;-) However there are way too many questions and answers (not to mention all the other forums, board etc online!) for them to read through everything just in case there's something illegal among it all... They do look up online stuff when investigating someone but they don't check all online content from everyone!
