I really don't know about the penny idea above...but they do sell water treatments that will kill all the snails. The best thing to do is just keep plucking them out until they are all gone, if that fails...get a treatment or if you have enough room in your tank you can get a clown loach that will finish off the rest of them usually.

I have the same problem. What I did was to put some pennies in my filter. Find old pennies, they are made of copper. The new ones have a greater percentage of zinc and they wont do nothing. Check on wikipedia and you will see what pennies you can use. I think that those that where made during the 70's or 80's are ok. The coins will free some coper in your tank and that will kill the snails. But you have to be patient. I started 2 weeks ago with 5-10 pennies in my 10 gal tank and i'm starting to see some results. Good luck!

Here is some great advice I got to capturing them!

First, buy a film canister and wash it out completely to get rid of any chemicals that may harm the fish. Puncture small holes in the top. Fill it with weights and some blanched greens (Spinich works the best). Put it in just before the lights go out, or turn off the lights earlier. After 2-4 hours, pull out the canister and it SHOULD be filled with snails!

if it is a tropical aquarium (not goldfish) get some clown loaches. They eat snails.

If you hace a brackish aquarium (half way between fresh and salt water) puffer fish will eat them.

Or you can just crush them onto the side of the glass and the fish you have will eat them. works for all aquariums.

Check your filter. Sometimes they hang out there. dont rinse it out, just wipe them out with your hand. toss them outside or put them back in the tank.

there is also something you can get at the pet store to kill snails. some kind of chemical. I dont trust it though. I dont know what, if anything it will do to the other fish.

the previous person advice was really good. snails are asexual.. they are just going to keep reproducing.. if you dont get rd of them... those little circle things on the side of the tank are the eggs you have to knock those of so the dont hatch. if you have a
placosomus ( sucker fish) he will eat the eggs if knocken off side of tank. i dont trust the chemical either it might kill you fish..
