All time zones around the world have a letter designation. UTC, which used to be called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), has the designator Zulu. One hour ahead of UTC is Alpha. Ten hours ahead of UTC is Kilo time. Anyone working with UTC - aviation, meteorology, seismology, the military etc - use Z after the time to designate UTC.

Zulu stands for Z which is the military designation for Greenwich Mean Time originated to synchronize military operations worldwide.
It is used so everybody can operate off the "same" clock without
having to do calculations.

Now if they would only get rid of daylight savings time ! Change work hours . . .not the clock !
