Every morning at about 9:20 a female cardinal spends about 10 minutes trying to fly through my glass door. There is a wooden door behind the glass door and the bird attempts to get in whether the wood door is open or closed. There are 4 bay windows nearby which the bird ignores. What is going on?

I have cardinals in my yard, but I only ever see a male and female. They seem to be highly territorial, they don't even want to be around other species. Yours might see her reflection and be trying to drive it away. If you have a bird feeder try moving it to where they can get at it without flying by the door. They're great birds though. We sometimes call them Beeker Birds because of the "beeker beeker beeker" sound they make.

Put a few of the gel or static stickers on the glass door for a few weeks. The bird will see them instead of the door behind. You can take them off in a few weeks when the behavior has changed.

Maybe the glass is reflecting something the bird recognizes in your yard?

Most likely the bird is seeing its reflection in the glass and is trying to defend its territory, as suggested before try putting something on the glass to stop the reflection, or remove the glass and put the screen in until the birds are done nesting.

It may not see the door - place a dark object in the center of the glass - or near the strike area - and that may help.

we've a similar issue and that i think of it somewhat is with the aid of fact the glass mirrored image makes them think of they could proceed genuine on with the aid of. I surely have somewhat birdie that sits on the bottlebrush exterior my focused visitor mattress room pecking on the window and that i think of he's warm for the birdie he thinks he sees no longer understanding it somewhat is himself! i found using the vinyl peel offs i'm getting from some charities I help caught to the window deters them from flying into the window (the dying fee is down, too).
