Despite what some people may think, The Queen is far more practicable than people give Her credit for. Her stint in the services during WW2 did not leave Her helpless.
A guest at Buckingham Palace was late for a function and when she came down from her apartment she apologised to The Queen for being late. I'm sorry Ma'am, she said but I was having troubling with the toilet not flushing. "Oh, we will soon fix that" replied the Queen, and She did. Not the distant and remote aloof, mustn't get one's hands dirty after all!

They use "the palace" only when they entertain people. When they aren`t entertaining they live in their private apartments and most of the time look after themselves. I can`t believe that you think that the Queen doesn`t know how to wash up. She was in the army as a young woman, she knows how to do everything you do, I bet!

Queen Elizabeth is a mother and a grandmother and surprisingly similar to every other woman on the face of the Earth. She is intelligent and personable and though she has led a protected and privileged life knows all about the activities of daily living and what is done by other people.

Given that when she was 18 she knew how to change a tyre and the oil in cars and trucks i think she would have an idea how to wash a tea-cup although i doubt she rarely would have to do so . During World War Two , She trained as a mechanic in the army. .http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6a/Lizwar.JPG
I am not a royalist, BUT it kind of bothers me from time to time when people forget that basically the royals are STILL just people.

I would guess she knows where the kitchen is and she knows where the sink is, so if she wanted to she could was the tea cup out herself, but I doubt if they lift a finger to do anything around that palace.

I suspect so, considering the fact that she insisted on taking an active role working as a driver during WWII. She quite cheerfully mucked in to do her part without any fuss whatsoever. She probably doesn't do the washing up too much these days, though!

Seriously, I think she does. She is probably more down to earth than we give her credit for. Those shots of cereal at the breakfast table in tupperware boxes shows she has a bit of practical streak, and she reputed to be careful of watching her pennies. Life being royalty must be so boring having your days planned out for you. It's a job you spend your whole life in - you can't switch off and relax. You're being watched all the time. The way they communicate to each other in the family is all very formal, (by letter most of the time and via servants) but I suppose to them its normal.
