Two possible reasons - you are really really stressed or you watch the news too close to when you go to bed.

You are either dreaming about certain fears that you have or possibly it is that something that's happened to you recently has spurred the dreams. Basically if something, anything, has made you feel like you've lost control or given you a sense of loss, its probably causing the dreams. Dreams are nothing more than a window into our unconscious, it doesn't also show us a desire that we have. If need be, then find a professional who will be more than willing and capable of helping.

What do you eat for dinner or for a late snack, before going to bed?
Also, what television programs or books before bed?
Do you have problems that are unresolved in your waking life?
Are you taking meds?
All of these things can effect what you dream.

It's not weird, you're dreaming about the things you fear. Once you conquer your fears, your nightmares won't be as frequent, or scary.
