Many QUALIFIED females have been nominated and ran(you can google it), but the media doesnt show this to us.
There have been female presidents in many other countries, but USA, the land of the free and equal hasnt even caught up yet. Is America as oppressive as the other countries they try to liberate???? Why cant the US catch up with the other countries.
NO obvious answers please such as "cause we go through a voting process and no one has voted for a female yet" DUHH

Isabel.. I think Rice and Hillary are perfect candidates but you know thats not going to happen due to America's oppressive racism and sexism.
Also for a list of female candidates who have run but the media hasnt covered it enough..you can google it.

Americans are smart enough not to vote solely on the basis of gender. It would be HIGHLY sexist to vote someone into office simply because they were a woman. Instead, Americans vote based upon politics.
For example, I am a conservative. I would never vote for Hillary on the basis of her being a woman. I would, however, vote for Condi, if she decided to run. See, its not about whether or not they are female. Its about what their ideologies are.

I like the idea of a female in the white house but I don't think it would be good for the country. The idea of Democrats taking the white house in a time of war is scary. I do not trust Hillary and her socialist agenda. Maybe someday we'll have a female president, but now is not the time and I think Americans will realize that in 2008.

I don't think it necessarily that the US is not ready for a female president , but we have to have the right female president.
until we can get a female in the caliber of a Margaret Thatcher or a Golda Meir we might have to wait a little longer.
The worlds only superpower cannot afford to have a leader that they don't respect or have no fear of. Say what you want about Bush but there are a lot of despots around the world that fear him.

I believe that the US is ready for a female president but no one good enough if running. If we had a woman that was a good delegate and great at politics then she might have a shot. All the woman that have ran, weren't crap. So they didn't win. Someone needs to run who actually has a shot.

I think the USA is ready for a female and a black female at that. I vote for the person not the party, race or gender. I would have no problems voting for anyone that is on the level...

i am a bit perplexed by some people's answers. Everyone seems to say that they will vote for a woman if she is competent, smart, qualified ect. But, unfortunately, people are more than willing to vote for a man regardless of whether he is qualified or not. I mean can Dubya even read? Being a white, hetrosexual, wealthy male is enough to be president.
If you are a woman, african-american, gay, ethnic etc you HAVE to prove yourself many times over to even be considered.

Hmmmm, we're sitting here with Dubya the clown. We had Clinton the woman chaser. Maybe we don't have a woman President is one, they might be too smart or sophisticated. Or two, not many run and put themselves in the position to succeed in the elections. Please add details as to all these ladies you think should be President.

On the contrary, I think this country is willing to accept a female president, but the right female has not run yet. And I'd have to say that Hillary Clinton is not the right one. Now if Condoleeza Rice ran, we would have a different situation on our hands. She is a brilliant, articulate, and well-educated person and would do a fabulous job.

Wow is this redundant. Someone else asked the same question about a gay prez earlier. I say the same thing to you as I did to him. It is 2007, not 1961.
Nice legs, haw haw.
EDIT: Yeah that was my mistake. Your question looked so much like someone else's that I made a presumption there, and since edited my answer.
