Yup, leave it alone. If you are worried it may pop on its own because of its location, you could probably use the miltiary way of dealing with blisters which is to take a sterilized pin and make a puncture hole at the edge and express the liquid. I don't recommend doing this (and the military prolly doesn't after all these years either!) but there ya go.
Otherwise, just leave it, it will heal.

There are several methods of healing blood blisters. They include, but are not limited to:

Immediate care:
"Leave the blister alone. Elevate the injured area. Apply a cold pack. When pain subsides, apply padding or a splint to protect the injured area." Excerpt from Utah Mountain Biking
Elevating the affected anatomy and applying pressure reduces blood leakage into the damaged area, cold reduces the inflammatory response.

Ongoing care:
Soak the blister in epsom salts to reduce swelling.
Keep the area cleanly bandaged, and replace the bandage daily or whenever necessary.
"See the doctor if there is redness around the wound, red streaks, swelling, drainage, fever, tender bumps in the groin or armpit upstream from the wound, or an unexplained increase in pain or tenderness." Excerpt from Utah Mountain Biking[1]

Refrain from using the affected area. If necessary, apply moleskin to the blister to keep using the area, but note that it will not heal as quickly - even with a moleskin cover, the blister can become worse.

If it pops on its own, quickly rinse the area and apply an antiseptic such as neosporin. Do not ever pop a blood blister, or any blister. Opposed to popular belief, it does not help it to heal, it can in fact lead to serious infection.

With normal blisters you are recommended to leave it alone, or pad around it, by cutting an hole in a gauze or plaster to fit over it allowing it to breath and to let it heal naturally. Its only recommended to pop and drain the fluid (with a sterile needle or syringe) if it is going to burst anyway, and that way might get infected.

Thankfully I've never had a blood blister, but my advise would be to leave it alone and let it heal on its own.

You can find more info at wikipedia.

Thank you for those of you that posted. I also got a blood blister last night and was considering poking it with a pin and draining it but now I think I will just let it heal on it's own. It's on my pinky so the chances for it popping on it's own are pretty high, if it does I will go the soap and water/ neosporin and band-aid route. Thanks

Honestly, I've had one- all you need to do is wait a while, 'til the blister loses the bright red color (this is how you know whether or not it will bleed alot after taking care of it) then pop it with something clean and sharp, such as a sterilized needle, express the stuff inside it (Ick.) and apply a first-aid antibacterial.

burst it with a pin, clean it with sea salt and hot water (it doesnt sting - it sterilises it) then let it get air! will heal in no time!
