You should get a laptop dance for a tenth of that price

Have to agree with Darren E. Got an Inspiron 1300. Bit slower and only 60GB hard drive but still has all the go faster goodies like DVD R/W etc.

Depends on what you will be doing most. If you're looking for a multimedia machine i.e. music, photo storage, then RAM and Hard Disk along with clock speed is good but the price will be higher.
However, if you'r only going to be using it for general office applications, then a mid-range laptop will suffice. For the price you're willing to spend, you can get a reasonable machine in the sales. Check the comparisons and lab tests.

I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 6400. It's great! it was quite cheap as Dell are/were having a sale, it came really quickly and all is well!

It's got an 80GB hard drive (Plenty for me) 512mb RAM. a nice 15.4" widescreen and does a whole host of things multimedia wise. and just in general!
