The U.S., and the world in general, has been long been male dominated, a facet of the "hunter instinct". In fact, if you paid attention in history class, you should remember that women have only had the priviledge of voting for less than a hundred years.
Situations change very slowly, but, with the mindset of the American public, someday soon, there may come a day that may see a female with the intelligence and charisma to be able to overcome the "Good Ol' Boys" system of U.S. politics.

I do not live in the US, but here is my take on it. I feel that many Americans, now having women in power 'behind the throne' such as :Hillary Clinton (when Bill was President), Condaleza Rice, and the newest House Speaker (I believe), feel that this is "good enough" and that having a female President is unnecessary.

I am hoping that in Canada we will have our first elected female Prime Minister in the next decade or so...maybe the US will be the same, who knows?

The US has a conservative history. If you are worried about whether or not women will be elected to higher office, at least look at the improving pattern for women's rights in our history. We've gone from women not being able to vote all the way to having a woman being our Speaker of the House of Representatives. If you want to make a difference, then vote for a woman when she runs for election.

1) Maybe the people arent ready for a us president....just because this is the land of the free and equal doesnt automatically mean you can run for president and be elected....There should be more women that want to run, you are going way out on a limb by saying that is oppressive...

All the political posts are selected by political process. Many countries have selected women to run their country. In USA there is no bar on women to become President of the country. Comments made by you are unwanted.
