My lecturer told our group the only person who should be warry of the local men is Tom because he's short and blonde aparently arab men have sex with men for pleasure and have sex with women only to have children.

As a moroccan who lived abroad for a while and then came back there, i'll try to answer you honestly.

I've been to marrkech many times, it's amazing how things change. I don't think there are special clothes to wear there, except those dictated by the weather. More and more local girls wear occidental wear (and even sexy).

What you may find is that young men who will try to seduce girls, with a little respect and fun you can shorten these advances (maybe you'll like it if you're single). It's still a poor country, people try to find a way to get abroad or simply have fun, there's also prostitution, so watch your boyfriend.

What else, yes, Mosques are considered holy places, so non muslims are not allowed to visit (except historical ones like Casablanca's).

Except that, unless you don't have a criminal behaviour, you're ok. And even if you're criminal, justice is very modern (a mix between moderate islamic and french law). So they don't cut steelers' hands or whatever middleage sentences. Even capital punsihment is in it's way to be abolished.

I strongly advice you to visit the southern part, which is in the sahara. Merzouga, Erfoud, Ouarzazate are very special place not so far from Marrakesh, just google on them if you're curious.

Millions of people visit Marrakech each year, most of them like it's magic, i don't think you'll be deceived.

Go to the famous square "Djemaa El-Fna" there's plenty to see and buy but make sure you haggle as the locals expect you to.
In the evening you can eat in the square, the food is amazing and very cheap and there's a great atmosphere.

You don't HAVE to dress a certain way but I would recommend covering up (women). Not dressing as the locals do but just sensibly/respectfully.

There will be beggars around so have some loose change at hand (if you want to) but just be polite and they will leave you alone.

Otherwise just common sense, no different than if you were visiting any other foreign country.
Morocco is a great place, especially Marrakech I'm sure you will have a great time!!!

That's the strangest advice I've ever heard, there are so many european tourists in Marrakech that all this nonesense doesn't apply. They are so used to tourists there, there's nothing to worry about. The men there do like european, or foreign women but not just to have children, they're like any other men, just a little hornier. If you are a woman try not to dress too provocative if you don't want to make the wrong impression. Most of the people there just want to find a way to make money from you.

Marrakesh is a city that sums up all of Morocco's unique North African appeal, notice it with hotelbye . The city's title presented the basis for the name of the nation it self, spelling out this town's significance down the ages. Within the bustle of the city core you'll find old and new clashing and blending, which could produce some tourists very nearly dizzy. Snake charmers and easy shop touts equally compete for your interest amid a loud, colourful bustle that encapsulates Morocco's lively soul. For most readers, Marrakesh's labyrinth Medina (Old City) section could be the town's star attraction. The narrow alleyways really are a kaleidoscope of colours, scents and sounds. Is likely to function as sightseeing highlight of one's trip; along with the simply wandering is meant to vibrant maze.

You're allowed to wear whatever you want, just be aware that if you are exposing some arm or leg it will be viewed provocatively.

Wearing clothes that cover you from your ankles to your wrists will get you more respect and help you escape from some of the leacherous looks and comments.

Have fun and enjoy the shopping!
