At the end of november my large contract came to a end and it was my only source of income. I have been applying for loads of jobs and have had some interviews but just cant seem to get a job. I have never been out of work before and have always paid my tax bills. Im 25 renting a flat and need to pay my rent. Am i Entitled to any benefits? I know i could just get a job on the checkout at sainsburys but i have got valuable skills and experience and dont want to get stuck in a dead end job, i want a career.

You will still be entitled to unemployment benefit and entitled to rental income and council tax support. You will also not be expected to find/accept a job lower than what you are qualified for, but you have to show to the unemployment agency proof that you are actively looking for jobs suitable for your skills in order to continue claiming benefits.

You can claim job-seekers allowance but it really isnt very much. My partner is self-employed and was out of work about 2 years ago for a few weeks, and it was only about £80 every two weeks (hardly pays the bills and buys food). But anything is great when you have nothing. Also, if you live in rented accommodation you could try and apply for housing benefit to help you out.

You could check to see at ESC but it's doubtful. They could be benificial in helping you get a new job. In North Carolina we have a Job Link where you can go and they will help you find work also. Try some temp agencies sometimes they know people and can get you in a position quicker than you can yourself. Good Luck

go to your local job centre. they will be able to advise you on what you can get. to be honest it probably would be better to go and work in sainsburys and carry on looking for a job that suits your skills. I know its degrading but benefits are rubbish i think job seekers allowance is £40 per week.

The best thing to do is visit your local citizens advice bureau. they will make sure you are not missing out on any benefits and help you with the application process.
