I used HP/Compaq, because most their LCD resolution can set up to 1296x1024 pixels and can have wide choices of software including Photoshop. Can use backup laptop, PC much faster with same line of MS Office software instead of 2 different sets and file conversions.

It all depends if you are mobile or have your own studio. I've seen the ladies that go around the shopping centers doing special photos of your kid's, You know, the ones where thy dress your kid's up, And they have laptops. I would guess you should have one of each, a lap top for on the spot reteival of photo's from your camera while on location and a bigger pc back at your studio to process and edit the photos back at your studio. Start with a lap top and get bigger if you find you nead to.

A MacBook pro would probably be best for you. Macs are generally better at multimedia production. Check them out at www.apple.com/macbook

Also, you can use both Windows and Mac OSX on them, so it makes a very versatile machine.
