Gas rates everywhere are rising. The best way to try and monitor the cost is to lower the heat at night while sleeping and if everyone is gone during the day, leave it lowered until you return home. Granted, it will be cause for a chilly homecoming but what is the use of heating an empty house. Also, I believe there are monitors for heat levels that raise and lower heat on a preset schedule. Look at your local hardware store. Also, make sure your house is well insulated and there are not cracks for the cold air to enter. Finally, just wait out the winter months until spring and the gas bill will lower. Gas costs always go up during the winter months so that is just something that you should look out for.

Have gas rates gone up? Did you use the oven a lot more over the holidays? That's what makes mine go up. Do you heat with gas? Has the weather become colder since your gas bill has gone up?

the cure i found for high gas bills was to take gas fire out and put a log and coal burning stove in i now have 2 stoves in my home and its never been warmer and both stoves working is a lot cheaper than 1 gas fire if you would like a recommendation feel free to get in touch with me and IL put you on the road to happiness

My guess is that you have had a number of estimated bills and now they have read your meter they realises that you are in debit and are trying to get the money back by upping the repayments.
Call your suppier and have a word. Or you could go to uswitch.co.uk and look and changing energy suppliers.

well it could be worse...........
My gas bill for LPG is over £200 a month and its on only in winter(nov-march) from 6 am til 9am and 3.30 til 9 am.We have to burn logs in a wood burner to provide warmth as its cold really, we wear lots of layers and try to keep moving about!!As i am writing this my nose and feet are freezing and I'm in my bedroom because its warmer here.
We moved a year ago and replaced the boiler with a brand new one as the old one was 30 years old and cost even more.
The house is 500 years old and has 6 bedrooms.

£600 a year is less than average in the UK. I think the average is about £870
