I think people still see tennis is a predominantly middle class sport. It doesn't help that Henman comes from a wealthy family and fits this image completely... so as popular as he may have been over the past decade, I don't think it 's really changed the public perception of tennis. Maybe Murray will change that.

Tennis is just a.n.other sport in the UK alongside rugby, football, squash etc. It is played by all demographics but probably more prevalent in the mid to high strata.
Henman hill has had no impact on this at all. Wimbledon has always created a surge of summer tennis love that sees people of all ages and social status out on the courts.

No. I'm an avid Grand Slam follower. Men & Women's tennis are described professionally. Well, I suppose I don't really know becaus I'm a single female watching by myself..... BUT, I will admit that I do look for the cute male Tennis players. From Federe to Safin to Hewitt, I seek a great set and a glipse of their face. So it IS eyecandy according to your orientation.

Tennis used to be seen as a lah-de-dah sport in the UK, mainly to be played by upper-class people. Now it has all changed - tennis has become much more widespread and people from loads of different backgrounds play it. I think "Henmania" has inspired many people in the UK to take up tennis, and I think he has been a good role model for up-and-coming tennis stars in this country.
As for my experience of tennis, well, I don't play it regularly, but I love playing it with my family in the summer!

where i live.....typical London suburbia......mostly private members-only tennis and squash clubs, frequented by middle-aged women, makes me less inclined to think about joining. On top of which, most courts at public parks are either permanently locked/in disrepair/used by skateboarders.
So what do the LTA do with all that revenue from Wimbledon I wonder???
