I believe you have to be 15 to work part time in CA. I started working then. Of course, here's a secret: If they pay you "under the table" you could work now. But you take the risk of not being covered by Workman's Comp or Social Security. So as soon as you are 15, get a work permit. I got mine from my high school guidance counselor. As soon as you turned 13 you were allowed to have a paid job for a few hours a week. Contact the Riding Schools in your area and ask them if they are looking for any help.

In the UK you're not allowed to be paid for work until you're 16, they might let you do work experience but if you've got a horse of your own you're probably not interested in unpaid work.

It depends on the child labor laws of the jurisdiction where you live and also the subsequent hiring policies of that particular employer. In Kentucky it is 12 but it depends whether school is in session!
