Well, it seems to me, that using respectful language is validating for differing opinions, which is not to take away from the power of one's personal opinion, but to create a language that makes it easier to deal with the issues at hand, without pushing "hot buttons"...so focussing on issues without the drama of language that can be offensive. That being said, many people will find the fact that you have a differing opinion offensive, and there is nothing you can do about that, because the issue has been made personal, and this person that feels that way, will simply discount your opinion as they believe you are wrong and they are right...so it's easier to make your actual message heard without language that is laden with negative connontations...so you have the freedom to say whatever you feel, but individuals will not even hear you, if that type of language (non-PC) is used, because they stop listening to the point your making and judge your motives...i.e. personal history issues, instead of valid points on a situation...people also have the freedom to judge you at your word :)

Nonsense on all 3 counts. Freedom of speech potential being allowed to assert what you want is fairly, not having human beings consider something you're saying, or not having each person ever be indignant by something you're saying. this is not any sort of authoritarian administration to, dunno, not favor to hearken to racist jokes. in case you've been imprisoned for it by the authorities, you'll have a level. i do not understand Ruth Perry, yet does not have self assurance her or Wikipedia to be authoritative in this element. I keep in thoughts the unconventional left contained in the Sixties, and in no way really did we not use the time period "political correctness", yet in case you pay interest to previous speeches by those radicals, you'll wince at their political incorrectness. The time period got here into conventional use a lengthy time period later.

Because you still have the freedom to say what you want. "Political Correctness" is just the "wingnuts" telling you what you should & should not say, not what you are allowed & not allowed to say.
Now, it you got arrested for being "politically incorrect" THAT would be a denial of freedom of speech.

I agree, everyone is so thin skinned these days. It also might have to do with the fact that things that used to be taboo, such as homosexuality or abortion, are commonplace now. People do not want to hear anything negative about their lifestyles or choices.

it doesn't. unless you are foreign or black and are insulting the country and what it stands for.
if you are a true bred American, let's say, ....white, then you better shut yer pie hole or get sued by black people for reparations for their ancestors strife and sued by foreigners for racial profiling and discrimination.
-all because you voiced your views about affirmative action.
