Physics tells us that time is relative and mathematically you could move backwards and forwards in time since you could substitute 't' by '-t' and all equations of Physics would be equally valid (including all the gravitational equations, the equations of quantum mechanics and thermodynamics). Then why does it appear to us that time moves forward, why do we age and why do we die?. (Einstein called this the most stubborn illusion).

Very good question. Yes, time can move backwards as well as forward according to mathematics. Einstein's quote about time being an illusion, all be it a stubborn one is an excellent way to phrase this idea. Both Einstein and Godel wrote lots about this. For some of the best essays:

If it is true that time is only an illusion, if it doesn't actually exist, what's next? What does that mean for our world? I think that that question might be one of the most important ones to ask ourselves, especially in science and physics.

Understanding time?/? Question divided bye Question. All questions and no answers. Well Buddy, this is your day!!!!! Einstein is here and he is going to tell you what it is all about. Time is the 9th dimension of the 10. Can you name the 10? Some say that there is eleven. Do not accept that. Just ask them to name ten. You will find that they do not know Half of them. First off , do not let them redefine dimension. A dimension is a measurement. Nothing more, nothing less. They are and they must be written in the order as presented. 1. Length, 2. Width, 3. height, 4. weight, 5. area, 6. volume, 7. mass, 8. velocity, 9. Time, 10. infinity. Only 8 are related to MATTER. Time is a concept and infinity as with the zero is a repeator. All are derived from Pi. Think not of pi in the mathamatic point of origin but as a noun. Pi is magnetite.
Magnetite in the crystal form is a thetrahedron. A pyramid in the sand. If you were to hold it in your hand the ephiny is yours. Spell check is not working so bear with the miss spellings. You can not move backwards in time. Nice to think that you can but time travel is just a figment of man's lack of understanding the Cosmological Constant.. Einstein, Newton, Maxwell and the lot all are men of thier time. The knowledge that they shared are but stepping stones in the knowledge yet to be revealed. A major break through was made and published in the Logan Daily News, an Ohioian News paper with only a readership of 2500 is not deemed creditable for the revalation of a melinium. The Unified Field Theory and the Theory of Everything, M-Theory String Theory are but Theories. The Document titled : GOD, the Cosmological Constant is a document of fact. The Universe and the origin and that GOD is God and religion is religion and they are not one.
Your question. Time began with the first particle of matter. It was linear. In that it was linear it also had to be dimensional as per the ten dimensions. Pi in the form of the crystal Magnetite must be held and rolled within the fingers till the majic is felt.. Man is the union of the egg and the sperm. A negative and positive. The negatively charged sperm seeks the positvely charged egg. It is entirely a electrical phenomina. DNA is a helix with one side negative and the other positve. Time persist since the advent of the sperm and the union with the egg. From then on time is but the passing of history. Then, I say. Time persist in the human brain.

Einstein was right. In actuality we live our past, present and future all at the same time. The problem is with the social human mind and that it believes it needs a structure of "time" to exist. If you remove the illusion of time you bring into question the reality of everything else that is experienced and it raises the real possibility that none of this is real. To the mind and psyche it is a frightening thought so the ego says we must exist so there must be time.

If time moved backwards (retracing its steps) your heart would pump backwards and you would upchuck and worse, etc. Your brain would know the difference thus the 'illusion' that time moves only forward persists. It don't take an Einstein.

time persists because we have been taught that it exists... and the world around us echoes the passage of time.

In ages past we may not have had a true concept of dates... but the passing of one moon rising till the next was clearly understood by even the most primative cultures in history.
