They could smile, but their feelings has not developed fullly yet.

no not when they are first born you might see a little smile when they mess in there Dipper. Give the baby some time and he/she will be smiling and laughing all day. good luck and always remember the precious moments of your little one.

no, not really. all they really do is cry and sleep. they start laughing and smiling around 3-4 months but not much.at 6-9 they they go crazy with the laughing and smiling, it is so cute.

my first child was smiling from pretty much when he was born, my second child smiles too she is 1 month, but mostly does it in her sleep.
i think that in the early days it is more of a muscle reflex kind of thing rather than a purposeful action.

they smile but when they are dreaming not when you try to make them smile or laugh ( even if you make a funny face)

well if the baby is newborn , at that time they only cry . to cry to let mother know that s/he hungry or of any trouble and so on

i have a 5 days old son and i can see that he smiles at sleep... maybe he was dreaming or something :)

Are you for real? as soon as me son stop crying after birth...he giggled and still giggles at me sight,,, oh well you would too if I sent you me pics, but I won't ...giggle.. giggle,,, ahhh....ahhhhhhaaaaa....
