If your baby is due after 1st April and you have been working for your employer for longer than 6 months (but not for your whole pregnancy) then you get 39 weeks at 90% of your average pay, or £106 a week, whichever is least.
At the moment, you get 6 months paid. It's not unpaid.

For Mothers who have their children after 1st April 2007, the paid Maternity Leave is extended to 9 months (from the current 6 months). I don't believe there is any changes to the first 6 weeks of Maternity Leave at 90% pay and the remaining weeks at £108 per week.

Babies due on or after 1 April 2007

MA is be paid for a maximum continuous period of 39 weeks.

The weekly rate is based on your average weekly earnings.

MA is paid at a standard rate or at a rate equal to 90% of your average gross weekly earnings. You will get whichever is the lower rate.

The standard rate is £108.85 from 10 April 2006.
When does it start?
The earliest that MA can start is from the 11th week before the week your baby is due and the latest from the day following the birth.
