He has been a billionaire for a very long time in relation to his being a philanthropist. That and he does not just give it away, he has a foundation that makes sure it is put to good use. Believe it or not, you can have too much money thrown at a problem for the resources available. Rebuilding from the Tseunami is a classic example. They have plenty of cash, more will not help, but it still takes time to rebuild all those houses. The cash is there, the men and materials to use it is not.

Bill Gates' success has made his a lot of money. WIth a lot of money comes a great deal of responsibility in managing and stewarding what has been earned well. It is tough to give away all that money effectively, particularly, if you do not wish the recipient(s) to abuse the generosity and what is given. That said, I think he's doing a darn good job of it and leaving a good legacy behind for his kids to follow.

Being a philanthropist doesn't mean you have to give away every cent you have. The guy's got more money than anyone knows what to do with, and there's no law saying he has to give any of it away.
Why on earth would you want to criticise him? How much of your money do you give away to charities?

You've gotta make the money first before you give it away.

Seriously, it's just as likely that he makes more than he can donate. Plus he can't just dump the cash on just anybody... it has to be a worthy cause, and consider that there's always a limit to how much an organization can use (golden toilet seats aside).

Great question.... indeed worth asking him!!

I believe that it is the other way around.... because he has s..o much money that he is choosing to be a generous philanthropist.... even his current level of generosity is making but little dent on his wealth anyway.

He earned it, that is the short answer.

Through his god given talents and skills and hard work and good fortune he came up with ideas that were heard by the right people at the right time and voila! he is a kazillinonaire.

He is under no obligation whatsoever to share any of his fortune with anyone at all.

Cause he makes a million ever 10 to 15 minutes. Well his company does.

because he makes something like $66.000 per second or minute. Something crazy like that, so he can can afford to spend-spend-spend, and within probably one day he's earned it back and then some, plus he gets to write off any donations he's given on his taxes at the end of each year, and probably gets most of it back TO BOOT!! It's sickening, how rich he is
