They are programs that monitor the "world wide web" that are used to catalog the contents of the internet. It's a play on words. They are sometime called 'bots, short for robots. They have nothing to do with zoology.

An insect with eight legs which can build its web with its own secretion. it fulfill its food need by eating the insects which get caught in its web as it is a sticky one. also it will surround the body of the insects with its secretion and keep them for future consumption
