The British (Including me) Drive on the left hand side of the road due to historical correctness.
Back in the Roman Era, the Carriage drivers travelled on the left hand side of the road. This was so that their left hand held the reigns, and their right hand was free to draw/hold a weapon, such as a sword or pistol, to defend themselves and their passengers from highwaymen.
The Americans decided to travel on the right hand side of the road as their bigger transports had no driver's seat. They sat on the closest, left hand horse, which made it a Left hand drive vehicle.
Britain had no use for such large vehicles, and remained driving on the Left.

John F Kennedy's famous speech in Berlin where he states 'Ich bein ein Berliner' thinking it translates as 'I am a Berliner' actually translates as
'I am a doughnut'
Next time you see it look at the German official standing behind him in the uniform and white hat trying desperately not to laugh.
