Just don't pay any bills for a while. You'll find out soon enough!
I had the same problem when I moved into this house. If you phone round the likely suspects- Scottish Hydro or whatever- they'll be able to tell you if the property is on their books.
What I eventually did was just choose the supplier I wanted, they read my meter and I started from there. I never DID find out who the original supplier was.

Do you receive a bill, or get charged for it? If so the company should be listed. Ask your neighbor perhaps, or by the power of the internet, yahoo search local electric companies in your area.

Place a wire in the earth and another in the Live socket. Place the wires together. If the sparks are blue, then it is EDF, if they are green than it is National Power, red is Scottish Power

You could phone Scottish Power and ask if they suppy you, if they don't they should be able to tell you who does. Encap (not sure if that is spelt correctly) can also provide this information.

Take a meter reading now! Then keep this safe, give it to the company that sends you your first bill.
As a consumer you can choose to keep them, or approach a new supplier.
For updated advice on who to choose and when to change see this site. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities
