I have an HP laptop with 1 gig of RAM, a 100gb hdd with 46gb remaining, a core duo 1.73Ghz and 533mhz FSB. Bought it in august
When I'm working on it, it becomes really slow for about 8-10 seconds and becomes all right again. it happens every 10-15 minutes.
I scanned for spyware and viruses, but my system's clean.

Slow like the entire system is slow? Maybe it's overheating? It could also be some windows option thats set to clog up system resources.

If you can, try and run your Windows Task Manager when this happens (usually Ctrl Alt Delete will bring it up). Watch the Performance tab, which will give you graphs of your systems usage. Watch for anything that spikes too high.

Also check your Processes tab and sort your applications by Mem Usage.

If your computer has something to monitor it's temperature, check that out too. But with laptops you can usually tell just by touching them.

The kind of freeze you describe can be caused by pretty much anything. Considering your computer is brand new, if I were you I'd double check what I'm running isn't resulting in some massive memory leak. Given the consistency of your freezing, if you have a warranty on your laptop now would be the time to exercise it. Freezing can be caused by a faulty motherboard, or hard drive, and sometimes ram.

Most computer hardware technicians will refuse to work on a laptop because they are proprietory hardware, so if you have a warranty use it before it expires.

It may be that you need to run a disk defragment. Go to start> all programs>Accessories>System tools>Disk Defragmenter
