the serial is AF445461 if anyone knows the year also please can you help me?

call : 1-800-4 -singer they can tell you the birthday of your machine by the serial number. they did my old one and not only the year but actual date it was made. also if parts were still available.

I researched my on the web, Singer machines are still made but they are no longer a company unto it's self. They could not give me an exact date, only something in the vicinity of an original date. Have you looked on the inside casing, under the removable plate on the back to see if the date was there?
Good Luck, I still use mine and have the original cabinet.

think the Singer Sewing machine company has a site where you can check the serial numbers against archives of manufacturer dates etc.

I have my mother's old singer-JC628862(the JC-tells where it was made-mine came from Quebec).The number is just the manufactuer's #.Most sites are for the Singer Featherweight;but www.Singer-featherweight.com should lead you to what you need.The person who said Yahoo groups,was right too.It took me about a week but I found out about the one I have.Good hunting.

http://home.cfl.rr.com/featherweight/afresults.htm according to this website, it's probably from about 1940. There are a couple of yahoo groups that I know of that are specifically dedicated to older Singer machines. They are a great resource.
