1. America isn't a continent. North America, Central America and South America are continents. 2. The Republic of Colombia is located in South America, not America, because that isn't a place. 3. Yes, you are a Colombian as you stated above. Are you an American? No because as stated above, America isn't a place. You are however, a South American.

I'm a U.S. citizen.
People are citizens of the country in which they are born and or naturalised in not the continent. Technically I guess anybody from the north or south American continent could be called American.
