one thing I have learned is that, in order to respect others, we need to respect ourselves. without respecting ourself, there can be no respect of others.

Hi there !!!!
So you feel that you are not respected by others, that is a bummer. I believe though that we as human beings, as a spirit having an earthly experience, are the ones that have to respect ourselves first and foremost, and you know what you should not worry how people look at you ( like you said " look down their nose at people who look to be below them. That is so sad, but we are in control of how we allow others to make us feel. Think about it. It is utlimalty our choice that prevails, no one puts a gun to our head and tells us how to allow others to make us feel or not. It is our choice, our free will. We have to have security within. You are not less than anyone sweetie, no matter what job you have, or what job the people you deal with has. The amount of money they have does not make them any better either. The only thing that changes are mind frames to be honest with you. People that have no money worries for the most part do not have to worry about things that others that are not in that same level have on a daily basis. But that is another subject.
Feel good in what you do, If you were a blade of grass, be the greenest and most beautiful among all the blades of grass around you,( beauty is in our soul, in our thoughts as well) If you were a tree, be the tallest you can be, proud to be what you are.
You are working in the hospitality industry, cool. You get to meet new people, study the different characters, don't feel bad for how they look at you, they need the service you are providing, so chin up girlfriend, and if they can not see the value of what you are doing for them, forget about it and be happy as a honey bee, just do your thing with a real desire to serve,, smile often and fill your mind with positive thoughts. Give them a lesson, treat them the way you want to be treated and you will see how different things will work for you. We catch more bees with honey. I learned that saying from a very special woman in Grants Pass Oregon, Bobbie Lee, a very wise woman that I miss dearly.
You are 19, God bless you, you have your life ahead of you, Full of energy and beauty. Sweetie treat your life as a precious jewel, live each day to it fullest, be happy to be alive, be content to have a job that is enriching your life, for you are learning so many things that will benefit you in the future.
I wish you only the best.
May your path be filled with celestial light to guide you.
Love light and peace
always

I feel respect when I meet some people
by the way the act with me
for example;
I recognize on one of my friend
in the first time he saw me; he shake my hand and say Hello
He was in his car and he is get out of his car immediately when he saw me.
he gave me a ride and he opened the door's car for me
I didn't know him very well
however; he make me feel as i was his friend for a long time ago
He immediately gave me his full name and his email
He invite me to have a dinner with some of his friends
You can feel if some one respect you or not
How he talk to you!
the way he look at you
How long he will be with you ( if he comfortable will stay for a long time)...
Does he smile at you when he saw you
Does he thank you when he leaves
Do you feel you have to contact him
Does he introduce you when he with his friends?
for example; yesterday I was in an office dealing with someone, and when the telephone rang, he didn't hang it until he asked me if I mind or not? I said go ahead and answer the phone
THis is kind of respect, isn't it?
By the way, the age doesn't matter in respect. yes we do respect elders people However, sometimes you find someone too younger than you and respect you more.
I encourage you to do your best in the industry
and try to smile at anyone come to your work
Good Luck!

To be respected means that you deliver more than you promise and not promise more than you can deliver. The more you respect someone the more they will deliver. If someone has a hard time respecting someone who is worthy of respect for whatever reason, more than likely that person has a hard time even respecting themself.
Don't concern yourself with what those arrogant people think, they have issues with themselves. There are plenty of people who respect you and appreciate you for what you do and for the services you provide.
Keep your head up, and do your best...keep delivering more than you promise, and you will have the respect of those that REALLY matter.

Respect should mean treating people as you'd like them to treat you. I have to agree that many many people don't know that. Just look at it this way. Would you disrespect the cook that was about to make your food? Would you curse the person that folds your parachute. I know I wouldn't. The people that come to your place of work need you as much as you need them and should act as such.

It sad but true that it is the reality of life, but you know I for one must admit that having gone through all of that and having been put through residential school, simply because my Government felt I should become another nationality,I must say I am a better man for it. In the end I still see these things happening, but guess what. I learn to love them for who they are because it says nothing about me. Why ? you should ask?.. I may often dress in rags with too often messy hair, but no one will be allow to be treated that way in the taxi company I own... eh I love it..

Treating someone as you would treat yourself, or any member of your family and friend. But here's a link in my opinion that breaks down the t.rue meaning of respect.
