Generally sub urbad railway stations got their name by their location or near by area. Like Bandra station is location in Bandra and Khar Road station is near to Khar.

Major Stations are given their name either by British rulers like Mumbai Central, Victoria Terminus or Lokamanya Tilak Terminus.

Some stations like VT has been changed again by recent Indian Rulers to Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus.

These Indian names are derived from the Historical Heros like Shivaji Maharaj or Freedom fighter Lokamanya Tilak who in Maharashtra with Vinobabhave ignited the freedom spree in people's mind during festival like Ganesha etc and other time
