Most stamp collectors... particulary the kids... only collect used stamps from the mail. They do it because it cost them nothing. The only problem with this is that unless you do some exchanges with a lot of collectors... it is pretty much impossible to ever have a complete collection. Those stamps are common and worthless... Which is fair enough... as you did not pay for them.

In the old days... like 40 years ago... stamp collectors were buying new stamps and had them postmarked on purpose from the post office. Collectors in those days were as much interested by the stamp as by the postmark. Most of the stamps coming out of East Europe were like that up to 1980.

Only brand new stamps with their original glue on the back and no blemish are worth something. But stamp collectors... be warn... You will never make a profit by collecting stamps. Only the post office and the stamp dealers make money out of it.

It is a good hobby... and depending on how much money you are prepared to put in it... it can occupied all your spare free time. But it is costly... and depending what you buy... you could easily lose half of your investment the day you decide to sell.

I go to the post office to buy my stamps but haven't been in quite a while now since I pay almost all bill via the Internet. The last stamps I bought were one cent make-up stamps to add the two cent increase to the stamps I had on hand. I used to have a post office about four blocks away. A couple of years ago, I got a letter in the mail telling me they were closing that post office and "for my convenience" were opening a new and bigger post office 6 miles away. I kind of got a chuckle out of that.

Yes, indeed. Most wanted already-stamped stamps is the B.J. Habibie pic stamp as a President with any of Timor Timur or East Timor in English (now Timor Leste) city post office. Because not long after B.J.Habibie became the President of Indonesia, Timor Timur got its independency and renamed as Timor Leste. B.J. Habibie is also has the shortest period of precidency in Indonesian history, but most controversional among the other. He is the last President in Indonesia whose self-potrait became a stamp.

Stamps that are new and stamps cancelled, With circle and wavy lines are both worth of value. Stamps damaged are not.

Yes. Many collectors prefer used stamps. For general information about evaluating a collection, go to http://www.virtualstampclub.com/inherit - and it doesn't matter whether you inherited the stamps or not. For general info about stamp collecting, go to http://www.stamps.org

Yes, they can be collectible but of course if it wasn't cancelled it would be worth quite a bit more, if they are worth anything.
