I understand that you do not want the easy way (vhs) so instead you can use an expensive video card, a video adapter like Dazzle, or if you have a digital video camcorder with passthrough feature, you can use that.

1. Video Card, you will need an expensive video card with the right inputs as well as video capture software and lots of storage on your computer.

2. Dazzle works like the video card but is much cheaper ($80 or so)

3. The Digital video camera will be quicker. The camera needs the passthrough technology which many have. Hook up the dvr ouputs to the input on the camera and then the firewire or dv out to your pc.

***BUT,
I would highly reccomend just downloading the shows you want off a torrent site. This will be quicker and better quality.

You can download the first season of 24 or the newest episode of lost. also software/movies etc.

Go to torrentspy.com and check it out. some hard to find shows that you may or may not have on your dvr will be harder to download but you can just keep those on your dvr and download the others.

All this really makes the vhs look pretty good doesn't it? :)

ps. you can also use a dvd recorder. (again expensive)

I'm not sure, but i'm looking for the same thing. I have 2 ideas so far. A HD video capture card to record the video to a computer. And (don't even try this if you don't have electronics experience) I'm not sure what method this box uses to store data. If it's a hard drive or removable flash memory I'm going to connect the drive to my laptop and copy the files over. Hopefully they arent saved in some proprietary format.
