will I be heavy for the next 30 years and then be thin again for the final 30?

It's actually probable. What you're talking about here is your metabolic rate. Younger people (up to about 30) have high metabolic rates. This means they can eat quite a lot because their bodies burn calories at a high rate. Then, as the metabolism slows they suddenly pick up some weight. Somewhere around 60 appetite slows and we often start losing weight.

Of course you are not a slave to your metabolism and can take choices about what and how much you eat and what you do to drive up your metabolism.

Increase your metabolism by being more active, chose foods that are less energy dense (fresh fruit and salads, raw veg, lean meat) and eat smaller portions more often (up to six little meals a day) and you will be able to control the post-30 ballooning. Another handy hint is to drink about 8 glasses of water a day... this will help eliminate toxins that cause us to bloat.

So, I guess my final answer is: yes, it's probable but no, it's not inevitable.

That just all depends on you. Do you want to continue to be heavy or can you lose some weight by exercising and proper choice of foods?
