in a lot of movies that i have seen, people get into accidents and lose their memory. when memory is loss, they forget all their loved ones and events that they have went through. but they don't seem to forget to do other things such as writing, reading, etc. is this even true? and if you have lost your memory, would you even be able to regain it?

Yes you can regain your memory if it is lost but real amnesia is not like the amnesia you see in movies. In an accident people can lose parts of their memory due to brain damage. People can also get amnesia from high stress events. They don't forget everything, just certain things, these things will return either when they are able to deal with the stress or in the case of an accident when the cells regenerate.
Someone who has gone through a traumatic experience that they don't remember, such as children who don't remember being raped or molested is an expmple of amnesia.
