My son broke his arm near his wrist before and the best present that cheered him up was having his friend help him play his favorite PS2 game for him with the friend using his arm/wrist and take direction. Might sound easy, but if you have a demanding player (like my son is/was) it is a true test of friendship for his good friend to do this for him!

a dvd or music cd, but that's a bit boring - unless its a comedy dvd that will keep him entertained and cheery.
what about a jigsaw - that will keep him occupied for hours/days and can be done with one hand (Just)
or perhaps even a ball so he can do a recreation of the 'great escape' scene against the walls in his house/flat?

Buy him a bowling ball. He won't be able to use it yet but he'll have a scream when he opens the box!
