I think it is. I've always referred to porn as glorified prostitution. I guess because its in a controlled environment, its acceptable.

.....But its still just some skanky woman getting paid to have sex.

2 brothers from San Francisco who made porn in the early 70's were taken to court over this. The court ruled that because the people having sex were doing it for a movie, then it wasn't prostitution, but art, and was legal under freedom of speech.

It is not prostitution because they aren't being paid for the sex...they are being paid for the taping and the acting...yes some of it has acting. They aren't soliciting sex and they aren't technically selling sex. They are making movies where they just don't fake sex, they actually do it.

Depending on the genre....it could be considered art. For the most part, it's just plain old pornography.
Now if one party pays the other party, then it's prostitution and pornography but if a third person pays both performers then it's only pornography.

I think I'll stick to dancing.

Good question and a few good answers here. A few simpletons too.
You rarely hear of filmers getting charged with prostitution, so apparently the law must make a distinction.

The best porn film ever made was "pornocio". "on Golden Blonde" was good too. LOL

Really good question. It is hard to make a logical distinction between two consenting adults having sex where the man pays the woman for sex and where a producer pays them both to have sex while he tapes it. Should both be legal or illegal? Both should probably be treated the same though.

since prostitution is the act or practice of engaging in sex acts for hire, than sex on camera is also a type of prostitution. but why on earth would you question such an obvious thing?

Because in prostitution you actively solicit money for sex, and it is that soliciting, not the actual sex, that is illegal.

In porn you are being paid to play a role.

Because you can tax the income! It's a little harder to hide the fact that you were having sex when it's taped. When it's just two people behind closed doors they can say they were only chatting!!!

Because it is legal to make pornography. It is illegal to prostitute. Not sure of the reasoning. Maybe because in the porn industry it is required to take STD tests, etc.
