By educating ignorant people like you who think that only bald tatooed drug dealers own pit bull terriors to stop you jumping on the band wagon with the daily mail by believing that society is somehow going to crumble as we have a manic problem because of 1 or 2 incidents. There are far bigger problems in the world than some people owning pit bull terriors.

having read some of the other answers to your question which is a tad sterotypical of pit ball terriers owners but all the same true, its the british justice system that takes the biscuit.

the law is an ****.

the fact the law only covers public places, because nothing ever happens behind closed doors does it.!?
the fact that the punishiment for owners will be imprisonment, a fine or both..hay but if you plead guilty from the start and your legal aid solicitor is any good at their job what ever your maximum sentance its going to be halfed straight away.
and this ££££ fine we going to give you, im sure some arrangment can be made for you say oh a pound a week.

the british police are doing their job. they put these people before the court, for the powers that be on the other side of the bench to release them with a slap on the wrist and its back to the previous comment 'the law is an ***.' its takes incidents like these sadly for the goverment for parliment to relalise that there is a problem and do something about it! heres a question how long will it take them to pass through a new law on dangerous dogs.

English people put dangerous dogs before their children.
As one dangerous dog told me, "A child is not for Christmas; it's for lunch.

The blame lies with the police. There is a law which states dogs such as pit bulls are illegal.

The police in England are too stupid to identify a dangerous dog. One can only guess why they do not arrest such dogs on the suspicion of being pit bulls. If they did this, there would be fewer such animals around.

Also have you noticed how the police ignore anything to do with drug sellers.Such people's doggies have, after all, their human rights!

Did you notice how the police are treating the scene as a crime scene when the criminal is a dog....don't get me started.

THE PUBLIC, INCLUDING CHILDREN, MUST BE PROTECTED FROM MAD DOGS.

In fairness, would any of us recognise an illegal dogo argentino?

Well, when the Dangerous Dogs Act (or whatever the proper name is!) came out in the early 90s, every single dangerous breed such as pitbulls, rotties and dobermans should have had to be put through tests like being made to jump when fireworks go off, kids screaming etc and their reactions judged. If they looked to be a danger, ie they went for someone / got aggressive towards people then retraining done. Following training, re-test and deal with the failures as appropriate. Now, before you all start on about 'my rottie wouldnt hurt a fly', my sis in law had a doberman and he was gorgeous. Totally spazzy and really wouldnt hurt anyone BUT these dogs were originally trained either to fight each other or to guard property and hurt people so I think its only fair we test their ability to be a domestic pet.

-Edit- I forgot to say, I HATE pitbulls as one attacked my dog when I was walking him ON THE LEAD! Nearly took my dogs eye out and left him with horrible facial scars. The only people that own them are chavs who want to look cool

erm,it's not just "hard men" that have these dogs.I know quite a few women that own pit bulls and no,i've never had any problems with these dogs or any breed on the dangerous dogs act list.Maybe im just lucky or that the owners know how to handle these dogs. It's not just these breeds of dogs that can be nasty,my in-laws had a collie cross and she was the nastiest dog i've ever met.She even went for her owners,i would'nt take the kids round as you had to watch the dog like a hawk as she probably would've gone for them. She was dumped out on the street as a pup by her previous owners and my in-laws took her in.She got nasty as she got older and yes,she was neutered.Any dog can be nasty, does'nt matter on the breed.

jdelegan...tell that to the parents of that little girl.Apparently 'small' problems if not tackled can lead to anarchy.Society must try to rid itself of burglars, drug dealers(users)etc first not just concentrate on murderers.I take umbrage at the 'bald' bit ,being follically challenged myself (nature)..agree with the tatoo bit as the vast magority of people with tatoos are chavs(common),especially women with tatoos...ugh!They have chosen to take a tatoo and chosen to have a pit-bull(dangerous and illegal).
Make the punishment of owning an illegal/dangerous dogs much harsher.

I think that they should stop breeding dogs that are illegal and the ones who are already alive they should kill. The only reason for people to have dogs like that is because they think it make them look hard.
If a dog is any kind of treat then they should put them to sleep and not breed.
The only need for dogsis for comfort and love. How can dogs like that love anything.
I think it is sick.

By forcing them to be registered, and neutered. When the natural life cycle progresses they will eventually die out, and everyone will be much happier.

And yes I am talking about the owners.
