I had the thought that I will never know when I die, because thoughts always happen about things in the past, never the present moment. So I will die and my senses will be gone, and I won't actually ever get to "experience" death. I'm already seeing a counselor, but she just says there's nothing I can do about it, so I might as well tackle my "fear of life" instead.

You can't lose your fear of death - it's instinctual, and many of our human traits rely on it. I believe it is not a bad thing to be scared of death as it encourages you to live life to the fullest and strive for a life free of regrets.

Think of all the plants and animals that have to die just to keep you alive a single day. Think of all the people that die everyday. They will turn into fertilizer for plants which will get eaten by animals...and the cycle continues. You already are "experiencing death" because death is a part of life and you cant have life without death. The only thing that makes death scary is not knowing exactly what happens next....but does that automatically make it a bad thing?

I'm convinced that fear of death is by the living. We see someone die, particularly in illness or an acident, and our reaction is that it must really hurt. But I don't think that when you die you have time to remember if there was final pain.
I have had some medical procedures and minor surgeries. They did local anesthetic but I was never totally asleep. The anesthesia was such that I do not remember the actual procedures. Spooky, huh? But I think death is like that. If you don't wake up, you don't remember. If you don't remember, you don't hurt.
Hope that helps.

No one knows for sure how they will go. Some die unexpectedly and very quickly and if they know there is a problem they are probably confused as they go. Some people have long drawn out deaths by disease. For one; NO ONE GETS OUT ALIVE. We ALL die. You just have to accept it, get along with life, have as much enjoyment as you can while being a responsible citizen. Easy for me to say, I am not in your shoes. Wish you the best of luck with your challenge.

If I were you, I would be more afraid of wasting so much of my life worried about death, than dying itself.

Right now you are wasting hours worrying and talking to a consoler... Go live. You will have plenty of time to worry about death when you are sitting in a nursing home in a pile of crap staring at the walls in some hallway in your wheelchair, lonely, for the last 10 years of your life.

i have same fear .just know when it happens your life of pain and suffering is over.sometimes i think im already dead and just havent passed over(in purgatory).but we cant consume our lives with worrying about death .it will happen to soon then, worry about life and how you can extend it and make your mark in this world.dont sweat the petty thing ,pet the sweaty things.we are all going to end someday lets do it on our terms that way we know when to expect it .your counselor seems to be pretty smart.lets worry about things in our control and not what is inevitable

It's an unknown. Why should we treat it as something terrible when it might just be another new, inevitable, experience that we know and will never know anything about until we experience or non-experience it. Make use of your time while you have it but do not worry about things that we cannot change, because it does no good.

"you will never know when to die" does anyone know when to die? of course NOT... ask yourself " how did I know when to live"?
Thoughts always happen about things in the past?... assuming you went shopping yesterday... how in the world, can you go shopping yesterday, if your not going to have that thought till next week? if you have to go to the bathroom - do you not think about it the moment you feel you have to go? or do you think about it next week?

"tackle your fear of life"? I thought you had the fear of "death"

Life is an adventure, full of surprises....you dont know what lies ahead of you in life, or do you? we all know for sure that "death" lies ahead of us... This is 1 of the 2 things we all know for sure...so live you life to ir fullest, cause death is final....

oh the other thing we know for sure... we will all pay taxes!!!

Daisy

and when you do die.... go out sideways, with a bottle of champange in one hand and a bowl of cherries in the other, saying " weeeeeeeeeeeee what a ride" !!!

Live every moment like its your last and sqeeze every bit of enjoyment out of it that you can. You are going to die, but first you have to live! Stop worrying about it and get on with it, I think you'll find it a very enjoyable ride.

do not waste the time you have thinking about death. You can not dwell on something that you can not change. Just look at death as a journey that we all must take.
