Why can Simpson's rule for integration only be used when the number of strips is even and greater than four?

the number of strips must be just even, i.e. 2, 4, 6,,,, 22, 24,,,,
because for Simpson’s method we build parabolas y=ax^2+bx+c through 3 adjacent points to find a, b and c for each double-strip;
