I don't like religion. But I wonder if a society would have been without religion/god. I am a very honest and 'good' being, and yet I don't believe in religion/god. Could most human like me or are they animals who need to be kept on leash ?

As I say religion is the cause for most of the hatred in the world.
The church's frowned on the "Gay's" and many others perhaps if they had not then "gay" bashing would not have came about.
I do not believe in god I have put him in the same class as easter bunny santa and the tooth fairy.
Have a look at the sins and answer me this if glutiny (greed) is a sin then are children born sinners as they will not say no to a lolly or a treat even with their little tummy bursting.
And as for vanity being a sin I think not more people should be vain and learn to love themselves and what they see in a mirror.

I have noticed that the bible teaches not to judge yet the churches do and most people who go to church do they spend too much time thinking badly of others for doing wrong instead of think what they can do to help some one out.

There are many of us who do not believe but who have big hearts and care about humanity no we are not animals who should be leashed nor should the whitch hunts be started up again.
I think religion has a lot to answer for.

I believe religion was invented to keep humans civil. I think it has helped to mold most of society into good, decent people but I also believe some people abuse religion and take it to extremes and because of this behavior I think religion has gotten a bad name. I think most religions serve a good purpose and they lead us in a good moral direction, help keep humans flourishing by for the most part teaching us not to harm others or kill. Through stories they try and teach lessons, the difference between right and wrong, how to treat others & they give hope, a reason for being. Some people take religion into their own hands and kill in the name of their god, but for the most part religions do not support this type of behavior. I do think it is human nature to do what it takes to survive, and if that means killing others then I think it is our primal instinct to do so. In a certain way I do think that without religion society would be different and quite possibly "animalistic" but it is also our nature to evolve and I think that if religion weren't present that humans would create some other form of governing and way to better ourselves so that the human race can continue to survive and flourish.

Religion, I believe, has nothing to do with personality. I mean, yes, it may influence one to act a certain way, but in the end I believe it's all up to how the person was raised, the enviroment which surrounded them, the people in their lives, events that have taken place...I think all these things have a bigger impact on a persons behavior than religion alone. So, just because someone doesn't believe in God/religion doesn't mean they are a bad person.

I think part of your problem is by defining humanity in terms of good or bad. it just is. We as humans are a social bunch and so we define good and bad as what is good for the whole IE if someone participates in anti social behavior then we classify them as "bad".

To define a human in a biological sense we are animals and we behave in such a manner. That does not make us good or bad, that just makes us slaves to our biology. The only imperitives we have are to survive and reproduce. just like any other species.

In my opinion we are no better than any other animal and sometimes worse.

Why is animalism not good?

Good is a very abstract term, even among abstract thinking.

The main thing about humanity is that many of tem try to deny, or give totally into their desires. They need to find themselves, not their poles, Leashes are applied by others.

The dog needs to learn when to bite, and when not to.

It seems that there are alot of people that require that leash... the predictibility of 'nature/reality'... the safety of comfort/ the comfort of safety... as illusive as that is even.

Though, is it better to be afraid and controlled by that fear, or to be above the fear and in control of it?
