yes rock music has sucked since after the 1950's in my opinion...since the coming of the Beatles. Back in the 1950's when it was still "rock and roll" and it was represented by solo artists like jerry lee lewis and Sam Cooke it was ok. But that John lennon crap started this whole wild rock band trend. Rock bands are usually deathly boring and their loudness does not make up for it. (it only makes them more obnoxious). There is no feeling in the music, it is just... bleah ! Fortunately rock is dying out now but i had to put up with that noise my entire childhood in the 80's. No one cares about this teen angst crap, people want music that makes them feel good. Deal with your issues and don't force the rest of the world to deal with them through that chaotic noise you call music. This genre has almost single handedly ruined the reputation of the guitar as an instrument. I repeat, post-50's rock is annoying untalented noise.

OK, being that I am apposing your comment, you will probably not pick this as the answer you are looking for, but NO. I think Rock went "down hill" in the 80's. I personally LOVE alot of 80's and 90's bands, (hair bands, and grunge) But I do not think Rock is as great as it was in the 70's and 60's. The 50's was cool, but you can't tell me that you wouldn't love to just kick back in your bean bag and toke apokie, while relaxing to the nice riffs of Mr. Hendrix, or the wonderful melodies of Cream etc. I love the 60's and 70's. I just think It isn't about the music any more. It is all about the nice crib, drugs, and set of wheels. And the chicks. Not to say that they didn't have all that in the day, but you know what, thats ALL it is about now. This made me go smoke a cigarette, LOL

Wow! What a stunning comment! I love the '50s but I also love the '60s and '90s. It is sad that doo-wop died with the British Invasion but then again the British Invasion opened the way for Psychedelic which influenced the evolution of Alternative Rock. So we lost some great things and gained some others. Time moves on and things change. There's still a lot of good music. It's just different.

Oh come on now, Del Shannon was good. And many others. I prefer music before I was born and a little beyond. I was born in 1972 and love the music of 50's to the 70's. Anything after that I agree with you on. Oh yeah, and I agree with you on the Bugs, I mean Beatles. I can't stand music from the 80's up. Because like Bob Segar said, Today's music ain't got the same soul.

for the most part i agree with you... being a member of a modern rock band myself. there are a few exceptions but you have to dig really REALLY deep to find them. look up a band called And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead... dont let the name fool you, they arent heavy metal, they are very melodic and very musical... i dont know, you may like them and you may not, but dont give up on the genre just yet.

And you're entitled to that opinion, but I'm sure there are MANY people who disagree with you including myself...

rock has had many great bands with awesome songs since the fifties...it's not necessarily the same sound/style, but it's still good and it's still rock

I think you've answered your own question in the details...so why are you even asking this? I think the whole Yahoo Answer forumn is meant for real questions, not rhetorical ones that you don't want any real answers to...just people who agree with you...
