I have taken a few HPT but they were negative, but I believe that I may be pregnant. I am going to get a blood pt done in a couple weeks, but the doctor told me that their urine pt are more sensitive than hpt? Does anyone have experience with this, because I don't want to waste my time going in there if they're not any more sensitive. Thanks. :)

They normally use the same tests as HPT so they are about the same. Blood tests are always better. But just wait and see for if you get anxious you may make your period late and then your really going to think your pregnant.

An HPT can only pick up high levels of a certain hormone that indicates that you are pregnant - a doctor's test however, is more sensitive in that case and will give you a true answer.
Sometimes an HPT will give you a false negative because it isn't sensitive enough to the certain hormones produced when pregnant.

I don't understand why you consider it to be a waste of time to find out at your doctor's office. If the test is positive, he can immediately prescribe your neonatal vitamins and get a good indication of how far along you are (and give you a due date). And, if you have insurance, your co-pay will probably be less than the cost of an over-the-counter HPT. If you are going to wait weeks for a blood test, you might as well take another HPT because over weeks, there will be plenty of pregnancy hormone to detect.

Plus, if the test comes back negative at the doctor's office, he can examine you to determine if you are having some other problems (I'm assuming you've missed your period).

Take care of yourself. Your doctor is your friend.

An HPT can in uncomplicated terms %. up intense levels of a definite hormone that shows which you're pregnant - a doctor's try in spite of the undeniable fact that, is extra gentle if so and supply you a real answer. now and lower back an HPT supply you a pretend adverse because of the fact it isn't any longer gentle sufficient to the specific hormones produced during pregnancy.

doctors tests are a bit more sensitive as i missed my period at one stage and i did three home pregnancy tests with in a month and the only one that showed up at all was the very last one the same day i went to the doctors but when my doctor did one the lines came up really dark while two of the hpt said i wasn't pregnant and the three one gave me a very very faint lines i could hardly even see them so i think yes the doctors tests are more sensitive

I have read they are actually less sensitive. Blood tests are more accurate however,
If you are getting lots of negative hpts, you probably are not pregnant.

Most HPT's don't register the hcg hormone until it's a level 50, the doctors register it at level 5.

Yes theirs are more sensitive. Go to the health department because the nurse there told me that their pregnancy tests will show if you are pregnant 10 days after conception.
A blood test will show if you are pregnant 7 days following conception.

I agree...they are the same. If you try to go to your family doc instead of the ob/gyn they can usually get you in much faster. More than likely you will be sent to a lab for the bloodwork anyway.
