Does the guy have any say in the decision to keep the baby or abort it? What are his legal rights? What are the mothers legal rights?

Rob S hit it right on the head. A lot of women who are under the impression that the father doesn't have any rights i.e. "It's her body" are in for a rude awakening if they every find themselves in this situation. It all depends on the jury/judge. People can win millions of dollars for spilling coffee on themselves. You think the same couldn't happen if you decided to abort their offspring? It's true, the more woman are seen as equals, the more they screw themselves. Don't be surprised if here shortly your body no longer belongs to you. You "offered" yourself to the man, he "offered" himself to you, half and half, completely equal right? Or do women want equality for some things (wages, respect, power, acknowledgment) and inequality for others (military draft, domestic disputes, child custody, abortion choice, insurance rates, alimony, child support) I can't wait for the first man to sue a woman he got pregnant for stealing, murder or PTSD. Like Rob S said if a woman has an abortion, legally "it's ok, it's HER body HER choice" If a guy wants to abort the baby it's not his choice, he will just have to pay child support for the next 18 years. I think he should sue for genetic theft or unlawful use of a gift (I can give you a gun but not be responsible if you shoot someone with it) . If he kicks /punches the woman in the stomach and causes a miscarriage... he gets charged with murder, even if the woman isn't injured, If he kills the woman, he gets charged with 2 counts of murder WTF!!! how does that happen, technically, that would be an abortion. Sorry to rant and rave, this is a sore subject for me. I'm all for equality but make it equal across the board. Show no favoritism to one side or the other. I guess every guy/woman should take the time to sign a contract describing their views before sex should take place...much safer than a condom

The guy does not have a say if you decide to keep or abort (he could kill you but be charged with 2 counts of murder). Beyond that, if you decide to keep you will have to fight in court for custody of the child. If you put the baby up for adoption and claim no knowledge of the father, he can fight in court later on and the court will decide if you pay the court costs, even if he wins custody of the child you put up for adoption, then you could get stuck with child support till the kid is 18 (you will not even be able to counterclaim, after all you gave up all rights to the child) so, if he ever finds out you said he was dead or unknown, you're screwed. If you have an abortion he can sue you for numerous reasons (PTSD, the loss of his child, agony, punitive damages) nowadays he could collect quite the hefty sum based off of that.

As far as the mother, you have the same options of those listed, just know it may not work in your favor, especially with women wanting to be treated as equals with men (I'm a man, I just report the facts, the women's lib movement started, a lot of states complied, when women started paying the same car insurance rates as men... suddenly the movement died down, that's whats happening with this type of scenario). The only "charge" you would be except from is the murder charge (the child , not the father) It depends on the role of the dice, how smart is the father, how smart are you, will you get a woman or man sympathizing jury, what about the judge, what kind of lawyer can he/she afford. This day and age "legal rights" means nothing, what people "feel" means everything. Hope this helps

You have more rights than you think you do. If you are together still, talk to her and let her fully understand how much you want this child. Do not get possessive of her or her body. Be understanding of her thoughts and your own. Make her aware that you want children just as mush as any human does in this world, and that she is not talking just her child's life but your as well. If she keeps this baby she will realize that nothing seems as bad as it once did. Remind her that there is help out there. Support her feelings, yet don't hold back your own. THIS IS ALSO YOUR BABY.
If you don't want the baby, then that is your choice, you can't force her to have an abortion. If, that is what you want and she dosen't, then she will have full custody when the time comes. That's if you deny the child.

Yes the guy has rights. File a paternity petition w/ the courts, and take responsibility for your child. Talk with the mother also. Discuss adoption, abortion, and keeping the child with an open mind and like adults. Good luck

no the guy has no real say over what happens with the baby as it is the women body and they might not agree with abortion or they might want to keep the baby there is no way that you can force someone to have an abortion.just stand up and be a man and look after what is growing inside your womams' stomach as it is half of you and the only right you have is to help this girl raise YOUR child anyway good luck with what you decide

You do not have any rights, my friend. Right now, it's her body, and SHE makes that ultimate decision on whether to have the baby or abort it.

I don't know on which side of this you stand, but if you want her to have it, that's going to be her choice. It's easy for a woman to abort, these days, and the man has virtually no say-so in it at all.

The same is true for the opposite. If you want her to abort, but that's not what she wants to do, you're SOL. You're going to have to pay monthly for the next eighteen years.

I wish I had some better news for you, hun.

Well this is a can'o'worms cause the legal rights will depend on where you live.

As much as this might hurt, consider the possibility that the child may not be yours. if things go weird then a DNA test may be appropriate.

My personal opinion is it is the woman's choice what she does if she is pregnant and you as her partner should support her in that decision.

It easily would not rely to me in any respect. faster or later you will would desire to tell the guy. I say get it out of how interior the initiating once you experience gentle doing so or after some dates and the hook is set. you already understand this yet make specific to make the guy nevertheless use a condom as a results of STD's if it ever is going that far.

Its her body and now you don't have any right if she wants to keep it or abort it. After the baby is born Yep you got rights. But guess what if you didn't want to have a baby you should have used protection in the first place.
