there are two ways to do it. One is go to the menu bar of your browser. Click on Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Sites
Enter the name of the site and Click On Block button. Click OK to Exit.
Another way is to edit hosts file. If you are running win XP, login as administrator. open the following file.
C:\ WINDOWS \system32 \drivers \etc \hosts

Put the following line in hosts file:
(put the name of the site to be blocked here, appending 127.0.0.1 before each website to be blocked)
127.0.0.1 www.blockme.com

save the file.

There are several techniques to use. My first technique is to tell them if I catch them going to the site, they'll lose internet privs for a week. Also let them know all traffic is being logged. (Unless you have a logger, they may not believe this.)

If you have a router, as admin you may be able to enable domain or keywork filtering. This would stop the site at the router.

You can add a dummy entry to your hosts file so that the address cannot be resolved.

You can block it from within Internet Explorer by changing the security and content settings.

You need to also understand that if you're trying to block them from going to www.myspace.com (for example), there are hundreds of proxy sites available that would tunnel them past your efforts. (A keyword filter works best in this case.)

There are also third party software packages that can help with this too. Search the web for thinkgs like NetNanny or parental control software.

Many programs charge to do this but you can do it for free...
open up my documents or something
now paste this into the address bar
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

That last part should say ETC this darn yahoo answers cuts things off.

now you should see a file called host or hosts
open that in notepad

now you should see some text
copyright microsoft, ect, ect
on the next empty line add this
127.0.0.1 www.nameofwebsite.com

(you put the web address there, then save)

Do that every time you want to block a site.

If you are using a firewall for protection, you can add the URL address you want to block and click OK.
